PC’s Sellers 2’nd team All-Big East pick; Jones & Vaaks All-Rookie

The Big East’s All-League awards were announced Sunday with some mixed results for the Providence College Friars.

The conference did not include its leading scorer, PC’s Jaylin Sellers, on the first All-Big East team. Sellers was a second team pick after averaging 18.1 ppg. The first team included St. John’s Zuby Ejiofor, UConn’s Silas Demary, Alex Karaban and Tarris Reed, Butler’s Michael Ajayi and Xavier’s Tre Carroll. Ejiofor was the only unanimous pick of the 11 Big East coaches.

Sellers averaged 19.6 points per game in Conference games and became the ninth Friar to lead the league in scoring. The last was Devin Carter (21.4 ppg) in 2023-24.

The trio of UConn Huskies marks the first time in league history that three players from the same team were named to the All-Big East First Team.

Providence freshmen Jamier Jones and Stefan Vaaks were named to the All-Rookie team. They were joined by UConn’s Braylon Mullins, Marquette’s Nigel James Jr., and Villanova’s Acaden Lewis. Jones was not (!!) a unanimous pick.

This is the third season in a row that some of English’s freshmen recruits were All-Rookie pick. Rich Barron was a selection after the 2024 season, while Ryan Mela and Oswin Erhunmwunse made it in 2025. Jones (12.2 ppg) and Vaaks (15.2) both played with outsized roles for freshmen this entire season and more than carried that weight.

“They’ve done more than we had hoped for when we put the team together,” said coach Kim English. “When you end up relying on freshmen you have a lot of ups and downs. You coach some really good freshmen, some really good sophomores and they kind of blossom as juniors and seniors.”

PC’s Jamier Jones (5) and Stefan Vaaks (7) were Big East All-Rookie picks
