Kim English came to Providence with a reputation as a impactful recruiter and that gained for steam Thursday with the commitment of Oswin Erhunmwunse, one of the top center prospects in the country.
Erhunmwunse is a 6-10 native of Nigeria who has only been in the United States for a few years and is now enrolled at Putnam Science Academy in Connecticut. He committed to the Friars on Adam Finkelstein’s 24/7 Sports network after also considering Georgia Tech, Oklahoma and Creighton. Erhunmwunse played club basketball with Team New England and then for Leo Papile’s Boston Amateur Basketball Club. Erhunmwunse will compete with BABC again this spring and summer but he is leaning towards re-classifying from the 2025 class to the current graduating class and enrolling at PC next fall.
Erhunmwunse is a top 25 rated recruit in the 2025 Class by 24/7 Sports and #27 by ESPN. His ability to run the floor and block shots is what has elevated him into an elite prospect.
“It’s a difficult decision and I know I can only choose one, with that said I’d like to announce for the next few years I will be staying home and playing for Providence College,” Erhunmwunse said. “I want to stay home and be a legend and I know I can do something special at Providence.”
Here is a look at what Oswin can do:
Putnam Science assistant coach Josh Scraba told ZAGSBLOG that “Oswin has the body and athleticism to play this game at the highest level for a very long time. His timing as a shot-blocker is of the highest level. He’s a true game-changer any time he’s on the floor. The rare guys are the ones that change an entire team’s mindset around the rim and he’s one of those guys. Teams avoid the paint when he’s in the game.”
Erhunmwunse joins wing scorer Ryan Mela in PC’s recruiting class. He also is a BABC teammate with Joson Sanon, another Top 25 rated recruit who the Friars are targeting. Sanon is a 6-5 wing scorer from Fall River who preps at Vermont Academy and is being chased by a host of national powers including Indiana, Alabama, UConn and others.
