No one knows the Big 12 better than former Providence College coach and ESPN analyst Tim Welsh. The coach has been traveled to Lubbock, Norman and Austin for years now and points out that the Big 12 may just have the best collection of coaches in any league in the country.
Bob Huggins. Shaka Smart. Chris Beard. Lon Kruger.
That’s just a start. How about Jamie Dixon? Big East fans know Dixon well. He elevated Pittsburgh basketball to the very top of the Big East with so many elite players, guys like Carl Krauser, Chevy Troutman, DeJuan Blair, Aaron Gray and many more.
No Dixon is at TCU, his alma mater. He is in his fifth season with one NCAA Tournament berth and two NIT’s. The Horned Frogs host Providence Wednesday in the Big East/Big 12 Challenge.
Tim Welsh was courtside – actually a few sections upstairs – on Sunday in TCU’s conference opener against Oklahoma. The Sooners won, 82-78, in a tight game that highlighted TCU’s much-improved offense. Freshman Mike Miles led TCU (4-1) with 21 points. RJ Nembhard added 18 points and 5 assists and that duo will pose a major test for David Duke, Jared Bynum and PC’s backcourt.
Up front the Horned Frogs feature a Nate Watson clone in 6-10, 260-pound Kevin Samuel.
