Ryan Mela is the lone returnee for the Friars in 2026-27

The Big East schedule was released on Monday (9/14) and the usual highlights that excite, and frustrate, Providence fans were clearly evident.
Here are some highlights:
*The Friars will begin Big East play with three December games, including home dates against Butler (12/12) and St. John’s (12/30).
*Providence will play only two home games during the mid-semester break: St. John’s (12/30) and Xavier (1/9).
*After seemingly playing a bitter rival on a Saturday at home for many years, the Friars will host UConn (1/20), Georgetown (2/23) and St. John’s (12/30) on either a Tuesday or Wednesday.
*The Friars play two road games in a row three different times. They will not play two home games in a row at all but will play three home games in a row, versus Marquette, DePaul and Villanova.
*Toughest stretch? How about at Marquette, home vs. Xavier, at St. John’s and home vs. UConn! The ‘saving grace’ would be a bye week between the SJU (1/13) and UConn (1/20) games.
PC fans can get their first looks at the Friars in two exhibition games at the Amica Mutual Pavilion, vs. Pittsburgh on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 2 p.m., followed by Georgia Tech on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 12 p.m.
